Two jilted people marry each other after their partners run off together at a shared wedding.
During simultaneous vows, Eleanor Vance leaves the narrator at the altar to chase the neighboring groom, who declares he cannot marry his terminally ill fiancée because he still loves Eleanor. Humiliated and watching his mother collapse, the narrator locks eyes with the other abandoned bride and quietly proposes they wed each other. They build a household and raise two children over three years. When Eleanor returns tearful and regretful, the narrator simply lifts both kids and walks away to meet his wife.
