A vampire inhabits a dead gambler's body to protect his mute wife from a blood core hunter.
Abel Houston, a high-ranked Blood Realm vampire, borrows seventy-three million blood crystals for a sun-immunity ritual that fails. The Old Steward moves to seize his blood core, so Abel casts a Reincarnation Curse and crosses into the Mortal Realm. He awakens inside a dead gambler's body that no longer burns in sunlight. The body's mute wife Anna carries fresh bruises from abuse. Abel swears to shield her, draws on vampire powers to survive, refines pills, and readies himself to fight the pursuing Old Steward.
